Same animation for different 2D sprites

Hey,

we’re struggling with the idea of using same animation for different sprites.
Example 1: How are Pokemon people animated? Does each have its own animation (because of different looks, clothes etc) or are they somehow generalized?
Example 2: Say there are 10 policemen and 5 basketball players, all looking different but in the end - still walking the same way. Should then there be 15 different animation controllers and animations? If so - you can end up with 400 animations, check the date and see that it’s 18th of May, 3012.

In addition to all of that - suppose those people from Ex1 and Ex2 could change their clothes each day (“real life”) - how to solve that?

Any helpful information would be crucial and much appreciated,

B.

The way I would do it would be to set up a skeleton. Then you animate the skeleton and not the actual sprites. The sprites are children of the different parts of the skeleton.

Check out this thread

This video shows you how to reskin the object (from time 20:00)

So then you just have one animation for all the different characters.

Hope this helps
