Game Facts
Genre: It’s a Action/RPG/Platformer Platforms: It will be released for PC, Mac and Linux and we’re looking with Microsoft to get the game on ID@Xbox for Xbox One! Also, we’ve contacted Nintendo Developer program and we’re waiting for their answer.
Release Date: The production will begin as soon we’ve got the budget from the Gambitious campain
My only feeling is I don’t usually like foreground parallax. It gets in the way. It pushes the main playfield backwards and makes it remote and obscured. At times it’s as if you have to look over hedges to see what you’re doing. I know you’ve kept it fairly low but I never really like it when this is part of a game, it usually moves a lot faster than the main playfield and creates an unnerving sense that things are moving too quickly, or in contrast that the main scrolling is slow. But it’s maybe a personal preference. Other than this it looks very nice and fluid and colorful.
Thanks for your kind comments! We really appreciate!
For the few persons who asked some questions :
It will be a 2.5D Action/Beat’em’all Platform game! Like if you make a mashup of Fable, God of war and Rayman
I get your thought! The game actually is a technical prototype. And the Art Director choosed to do that for one reasons : the scenario. The game begins when Sam arrive in that “forest” and he wanted to make the player feel that Sam is a tiny thing in that huge forest. The deal was to play with the perspective and zooming in on the player after this sequence. It’s also a big proof a concept for the level designers, artists and animators on the team.
awesome stuff man, love the style. reminds me of my own little project:smile: Personally i love FG prallax as long as u use the right amount of blur and it is fairly dark so theres no way u can mistake it for ground elements. i feel they add alot of depth into the game and i say keep at it!
here’s a mockup of my own game, and i use them too everywhere, keep em very dark tho so they serve only as a depthadder.
Unity Fog doesn’t work well with 2D games. As well as Distance Blur or other fancy camera effects. So I simply added a transparent colored layer in front of my objects Layers.
really? i used fog at 0.20 i think and it looked great. the game was underwater tho, not sure how it looks on landbased games like this. i gotta test this out. the colorlayer is pretty clever tho
Awesome news about Sam’s Chronicles ! The game is currently “in review” on Gambitious.com! More surprises will come in the following days. Stay tuned !
