Living in SF, I’ve gotten sooo many amazing opportunities to meet great people in the Unity Community (Unite, GDC, even the Unity office is here!). But at the end of the event everyone goes back to Copenhagen, Brazil, Georgia, Argentina, etc
Where are all the locals? Am I missing a user group? We should get together and talk shop, do quick-dev tourney days or something.
Paging Hanford Lemoore to the white courtesy phone, Hanford Lemoore… Hanford is a long time friend as well as a Unity developer here in SF. Hanford is also the guy that just pinged me asking pretty much the same question (whether there was a local meet-up), seems like we’re overdue…
I’d certainly be down for this. Also of note is the Bay Area Game Developer Meetup. It’s a great place to meet local indie devs, but there haven’t been too many Unity users.
@Michael - Checked out the Meetup group, seems neat. Gonna head over to Jillian’s with them tonight (8pm Tues)
I’ll try to scrounge up people who are interested in a local Unity thing - shoot me an email (danielle@semestergames.com) and I’ll start a mailing list. Hopefully in about 2 weeks I can come up with something fun suitably geeky for us to do, possibly under the www.InfiniteUnity3d.com banner.
It’s super last minute, but if anyone would like to attend, the release party for my team’s current project is Wednesday night. Closed guest list at the door so I’ll need an RSVP right quick. Really casual thing, just relaxing after the chaos.
Sorry Tom, sometimes I’m not checking the Unity forums for weeks on end if I’m not working on a unity-related project. (although current I am. Yay!)
I’m definitely down for some sort of regular or semi-regular Unity group meeting. I’ve gone to some of the other less specific meetups over the but none have held my interest on a regular basis. I don’t think I’ve been to the Bay Area Game Developer’s Meetup though. I may check it out.
As Tom mentioned, I had just asked him about a San Francisco Unity meetup. We need to get one started. I’m down for helping out.
So, anyone going to lead the effort here or is that something I’ll need to do? I’m hoping to get a 3rd party organizer much like 3rd parties are organizing groups in Miami, Boston, Berlin and a number of other locations.
If not then I’ll kick off something when I’m back in SF (next week).
Yeah I was talking to Mike (MStevenson) about doing this. We went to the Bay Area Game Developer Meetup which worked well so maybe we can set it up like that. If we’re getting a 3rd party sponsor that’s different but either way. Let us know when you’re in SF.
shotgunfox emailed me yesterday and said she had a list of people and she wants to put something together soon, so I think it will happen in the next week or so.
We are developing stuff with Unity and well, some stuff I cant talk about but I think a bunch of us would be up for meeting for a group maybe at a brewpub or something, also we some times hang out outside at the back of Marin Brewing Company on Tues nights for beers
It’s looking like we have a decent start for a small user group; I think Hanford and I will talk some more and maybe work something out for late next week.
I’ll set up a meetup.com page this weekend, it looks like a good way to organize this sort of thing. Until then if we have any more people interested feel free to email me so I can put you on the list. danielle@semestergames.com
Thanks for setting up the meet, I’ll have to pass on this one due to the time but will try to make it to the next. We usually don’t get off of work till 7ish. Also a bit more heads up would be great.
