Hey guys!
Im making an study on how i could i achive the effect seem in the game Journey, recent released in PSN.

Im seeking to reproduce the way that the sand in the game behave, when the character falls or walks it leave some kind of trail, i would love toe learn and understand some methods and ways to achive this effect and after seeing Unity’s Procedural package i think i should go for some kind of perlin noise.
Dont know, found it challenging. Any leads on how to proceed?

Trails on the sand are usually done with Projectors, which works well on PC (but it will cause the area which it hits to be redrawn, increasing the draw-calls and lowers performance somewhat), but on Mobile phones it’s to slow and can’t be used.
You may also want to try out working with decals, though that may not be perfectly suitable for uneven terrain like a sand dune.
