Just curious, but my Quest controllers in VR are smaller than real life. Is there a reason? Maybe because of the fov? I also import my own models and they also render smaller too.
It’s roomscale VR so it actually matches the real life transforms of where they are in 3D space. You can write a simple measuring tool, you’ll see that the space and setup is correct but the models are just a bit smaller by intention, presumably because not every user is a huge hulk like me.
You’re correct about the FOV being different than with regular flat screens as well but this is a tricky thing with VR, it shouldn’t be changed.
Is roomscale really that correct then? The Guardian is of course, but if someone wanted to build a full room experience, then the object within the 3D space need to be accurate as well. Here is an example of roomscale with the Quest:

Towards the end of the video they show the play space, so I’m assuming the boxes in the real world translate to 3D both in positioning and scale.
I posted with the Oculus’s forum, and some are saying that this scaling issue is only for the Quest, and Rift/Vive doesn’t do that.
That’s sort of strange, I hope it’s something fixable if that’s the case. Hoping someone chimes in. Please update this thread if you find out more.
So I spoke with Pärtel, creator of Final IK, and here is what he said regarding the video above:
"Yeah, all the crates were mapped exactly to their real positions and scale, you could slide your hand along the edge of a crate and feel it exactly where you saw it in VR.
The scale issue is probably just the optics making close objects look small. I mean if you enabled Passthrough mode, you will see your own hands pretty tiny too. So it is basically just a lens effect like looking through the bottom of a bottle.
It’s not just Quest, I’ve noticed things looking smaller on Rift S compared to Rift CV1 too."
So maybe it’s just the nature of VR how and the lenses.
Yeah I think that’s the case. But finger tracking is coming soon so you can get even more bewildered… until you realise it’s probably just an average hand size. Unless you have lady hands then I apologise
But really, when I was younger, my hands looked bigger. As you get older and the eyesight changes, your hands will typically look a bit smaller to yourself. So it’s probably a little bit of average hand size (the whole planet isn’t made of adult males) and the optics making things look a bit smaller to you.
I’d scale up the models a bit - you get a bit of leeway there.
