im new to unity and the scripting reference is confusing to me so is the like any like beginners guide to scripting?

If you consider yourself a total beginner, I think you may benefit from an organized book rather than the blog-post-type of tutorials you would find on the internet, which have their place, but can be confusing on their own.

I can recommend:

  1. Unity 3.x Game Development by Example Beginner’s Guide
  2. Unity 3.x Game Development Essentials

Both are available for online reading at Safari Books Online

I think this will give you a solid structure and then you can look for tutorials on solving particular problems.
