Hi!
I downloaded the new free version of unity, but it uses MonoDevelop as a scripting editor by default. Last time I downloaded unity (like a year ago or so), it used another (and better imo) scripting editor, as seen in this video: .
I have googled for it, but since I don’t know the name of the editor it’s pretty hard to find it… anyone know how to download the old scripting editor (like in the vid) and use that instead?
You’re not alone: we are many, and multiplying like rabbits! Someday we’ll seize the power again! Long life to UniSciTE! (that was that editor’s name).
MonoDevelop may have some good features, but is slow like a wounded snail, and crashes as often as Unity 3.4. To make things worse, it also adds extra CR or LFs that appear as blank lines in UA. It’s so exasperating that sometimes I prefer to use the old Windows NotePad.
After some search (I knew the editor’s name), I found hope at the Forum: there are other guys very angry with MonoDevelop there, and several of them brought Uniscite to life again - but like in Pet Cemetery, it was not the same… it didn’t highlight JS or CS terms anymore.
Anyway, Rush-Rage-Games gave this hint at the forum (see complete topic here):
“Open Unity>Click Edit>Preferences>then click the “General” tab>In the external script editor click the drop down menu and select browse>Then Navigate to your Unity 3.4 folder (it should be in Program Files or Program Files(x86)) then go to these folders> Editor> Data> Tools> UniSciTE> Then select UniSciTE.exe.”
I’ll try this soon too. UniSciTE rules!
Thanks for the reply, and for telling me how to get the old editor back again! Too bad it doesn’t highlight JS anymore… I read through the whole topic you linked, and I’ll try to get the 3.3 version of UnisciTE (as one person said it worked for him)… hope I’m lucky too and it works xD.
