Scripting similar to a trigger system?

Hello all,

First I’d like to say sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Now, I have had 3d modeling as a hobby for awhile, and I decided to further my abilities and work on a wider portfolio and eventually get a position in the game developing industry. So I am learning how to rig, animate and texture. Scripting is the only area I have an issue even getting a slight understanding of. I’ve spent hours and hours, mostly sober as well. I’m almost at the point of giving up. Youtube videos aren’t helping much, but maybe I’m looking at the wrong ones. I’m curious if anyone has some magic link for me to give me hope and vitality to finally start my project.

I am also a rather highly regarded map maker in Starcraft Brood War and created some very unique and fun games back in the day. I’m wondering if anybody has any experience with SC’s trigger system and if its similar at all to Unity’s scripting system and if theres a way terms can be transferred to give me a better understanding of Unity scripting.

Any guidance would be amazing. This game engine is amazing from what I’ve seen! I’m excited to be a member of the community!

Cheers

The two major tutorial series for Unity that seem to be very popular are Walker boys and burgzerg arcades tutorials. They basically go from no programming knowledge and work up from there, and its free. There’s many tutorials scattered across the internet but there not as consistant as these. Theres at least a hundred or so videos for them, so be prepared for a long ride.

Personally, I would recommend walker boys because they seem to focus on scripting in principle first, while burgzergs hack and slash series jumps right into a huge RPG game. Also, you dont have to go threw the hundreds of tutorials all the way to the end in either one. I only got to the middle of Series 4 of walker boys before I wanted to go on my own. The most important basics are covered first anyway. Like javascript and Unity scripting essentials. Lastly, walker boys uses javascript while burgzerg arcade uses C#. I wouldn’t consider it a factor though because scripting with them are pretty much the same. They just have different ways of writing.

Also, theres tornado twins series but they dont go deep into scripting at all, however they make a fun game so its a good break if your tired from the other tutorial series and just want to just get into making a game, and seeing whats possible. Their playlist is a little unorganized so you might have to swift through the other videos in order to get back to the tutorial series.

Thank you sir! I will give those a whirl!
