Scripting Software: Name Needed

Hello everyone,
I have been thinking about writing a program for Unity’s Scripting languages lately, however I have been hung up on finding a name for it. The program I’m thinking about will be an editor for all four (4) of Unity3d’s scripting languages: JavaScript, C#, Boo and Shader Language. It will also have some nice features like file compression and language conversion. But for now, back to the name. My first thought was UEdit, for Unity Editor, but it turns out that a few programs have already taken that name.

So, what I would like is for you, the programmers (or scripters, if your prefer) of Unity, to help me out by letting me know what you think would be a good name for the program. The name will need to not have been already taken by another program, and preferably have a nice sounding abbreviation.

Thanks in advance,

USE (Unity Script Editor)

or

USE (Universal Script Editor)

what about U Script

Sounds great! Will the editor be free I wonder?

As for names, what about…

Unitext, or…
Unipad (edit: already taken :()

Though they’re not really abbreviations like you wanted. If you insist on abbreviation… I suppose Zoneman’s suggestion “Use” is pretty good

Please may your editor have intellisense for both C# and Javascript, then I will definately buy it.
I have Visual Studio and it works great for C#, but man oh man editing Javascript is a nightmare without intellisense. So that is a definate feature request and a guaranteed customer.

As for a name, call it UniEditor.

Wolf IDE? simple etc

Wow,
A lot of great ideas!

USE (Unity Script Editor): I believe that is the name of the default editor in Unity.
USE (Universal Script Editor): The editor would only be for Unity, not really Universal.

UScript: I had thought of that one, but turns out it is taken already :frowning:

Honeymuffin?: That is so strange and out there that it just might work. lol!

UniEditor: I love it! But a search tells me that some other software has taken it’s name already. :frowning:

Wolf IDE: It’s short, it’s simple, and I like it! Not the most descriptive, but it sounds cool!

I would like to say, thank you all so much for contributing so far! I’m going to see what else comes up (no harm in that :)), but all of your ideas have been great!!

Now maybe I should answer a few of your questions (but only a few ;)).

At this point I do plan on putting it out for free, and if I change my mind on that, there will, definitely, be a completely free version of it.

Some of the main features I plan of having in the editor are: In Game Editing, AutoComplete (IntelliSence), Code Conversion (JavaScript, C#, Boo), and Code Compression (make the script run a little faster).

And that’s all I’m going to tell you for now  Thanks for the ideas and keep them coming.

Sounds great man. Will it be working for both mac and pc?

One of the things that would be cool is say, hitting cmd + B (mac) or ctrl + B (pc) would save it and auto run in unity (potentially swapping to bring the unity window to front, that would be fairly interesting. I’m forever hitting the shortcut to test in unity, while using uniscite or unitron.

Yes,
I will develop it to run on all three of the most common OS’s (Windows, Mac, and Linux).

Yep, I have already got that on my list of features.

+1 on that!

Alright,
So, the top four (4) names are:

Wolf IDE
EUSE (Enhanced Unity Script Editor)
Unscript (Unity Scripter)
Unitor (Unity Script Editor)

So,
What are your guys’ votes?

Thanks,

  • WolfShield
