So ive been running into several issues with beast inside unity… super long render times inaccuracies and no results to show for it.
So basically I have a choice between external lightmapping for larger and more complex models.
I have access to 3ds and Maya and Vue9. But there are also probably some free tools out there too. If Cinema 4d comes up I might get access to that too. Depends on my budget.
Im basically just wondering which tool would be the FASTEST and most accurate at the same time for making lightmaps. (is it even possible in Vue? i dunno too much about it)
Beast in Unity is pretty solid and yields great results when used properly. If you really are having troubles with it working properly and are 100% sure its not issues with your mesh and bad UV’s etc, send the scene to Unity with examples images of your issues and I am sure they will look into it to see if where/how Beast can be improved.
Baking externally is going to 100% more work and pain than keeping things in Unity. That said, Max or Maya would do just fine if you already have access to them and know how to texture, tight and bak with them.
Modo is another great option if you are in the spending mood.
