I came across this article and it really caught me by surprise. I’d never imagined that the product of the “old masters” would hold up so well with the newer generation of gamers.
It was good read! Whenever I feel nostalgic and play some games I used to do when I was just a little kid, I always end up disappoitted.
Games from the past are a whole lot better in my memory then they actually are nowadays.
With some exceptions ofcourse!
There do exist both:
a) Games which are still the same fun, if not even more, because they are just so well done and everything is in it’s right place - the real stuff.
b) Games were you’re kind of surprised seeing or playing them again and were you think: Oh well, you know in earlier days we…, everyone else got a little bit thirsty? I think the doorbell was ringing.
Indies related i think especially 2D still kicks some ass because unless you aren’t experienced in 3D and/or having some nice budget, chances are high that you’re loosing focus on core aspects on what makes fun in a game.
