Seeking some thougths / input

Hi all,

Well, I just posted a new entry to my company blog, I thought I’d ask some folks here to read it and give me some feedback… It’s more than just thoughts, it’s a direction I’m looking into for personal reasons as much as anything else.

Here’s the link:

Comments encouraged.

Thank you,

I have two autistic cousins who share many of the issues you mentioned. I agree with your blog post, particularly the part about violence; mainstream games (and movies) are often centered around heroes and villains, which can actually be quite upsetting to these little ones.

Both of them play learning games all the time. One problem I’ve seen that Unity in particular can solve is that the children are not so careful with CDs. Most of the games require CD authentication and are scratched to uselessness quickly. Web based games would be a tremendous help.

I encourage you to take a look at one site that has worked:

My cousins really enjoyed the games on this site, the only problem was they mastered them and became bored. One thing that might help with that is dynamic content.

I’ll be watching your thread with interest to see where your project goes and to see if you need any help.

Thanks Alvarus,

Yeah, while the initial discussion was focused on FASD children, the problems they experience are similar to children with any of the PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorders) spectrum of disorders (including Autism, Asperger’s, etc…). FASD children are often mis-diagnosed with some of those disorders.

Ideally, I’ll focus on games that address as broad a spectrum as possible. I hadn’t actually thought about the physical disk problems though… Interesting. I’ll have to keep that in mind, Thanks! That kind of thing was one of the main reasons I posted the blog in the first place, to hopefully uncover more things to consider.

I’ll post more as things progress.

Thanks again!

Galen
