with the number of tools like rigging fighting for selection with geometry and even transform manipulators what’s badly needed is this
I agree that scene view selection needs an overhaul. Not sure what the best solution would be, but in the meantime my team is using a custom selection utility that displays a list of all objects under the context click mouse.

in the meantime I ended up reverting back to Maya
Yoooo, that’s amazing.
We’ve always had a utility where you hold down ctrl and then use the scroll wheel to scroll through the objects under the mouse cursor. I prefer the dropdown menu approach.
