Separation of layers

If I understand correctly, physics collisions, camera culling, and lighting, all use the same layer property of a game object.

This creates a permutations problem, if you want an object visible to certain cameras, with certain physics characteristics, and affected by different lights, you end up having to set up a huge number of layers for various “permutations” of such properties if you need any fine-tuning.

Is there a way to separate things so that an object has separate physics collision, lighting, and/or a camera culling layers?

(And if not, where is the place where we ask for features…?)

OK found it: http://feedback.unity3d.com/unity/all-categories/1/hot/active/separate-physics-and-render-laye
