Setting up a collaboration environment in Unity, how should I begin?

Hi,

Could I get some suggestion as how to set up a collaboration environment in unity?
I have a vehicle simulation, and would like to let multiple user to use it at the same time.
Those with admin level, able to add “surprises” such as motor breakdowns.
Those with non-admin level are able to drive the vehicle.
If 5 non-admin users are logged in, then those five can drive the vehicle collaboratively.

Can this be achieved simply in Unity? How should I begin? Do I need to purchase additional packs from the asset store? How do I manage PlayerPrefs?
Please provide relevant links so that I can learn.

Thanks,
ikel

Yes, this can be achieved by the built-in Unity Networking, and I suggest you begin with a few Unity Networking tutorials.

I don’t really understand what you mean with “How do I manage PlayerPrefs?”

Brainswitch,

Thanks for your pointer.
Within a collaborative environment, won’t the players share the same PlayerPrefs?

Not necessarily, only if you code it as such. In our network game (using Unity Networking), PlayerPrefs is not shared. Do you want PlayerPrefs to be shared? Seems like it would be messy, I’d share only specifically selected options/items/etc.

Brainswitch,

I had that thought too. Thanks for sharing.
