I’ve got to confess that I know virtually nothing about networking and, before today, never even tried to network two macs. So how do I do it? I clicked the Airport icon and clicked on “Create Network” on both macs and then tried file sharing and that worked. Now what do I have to do to get the network demo projects to work?
Thanks!
Perhaps I should rephrase my question: I’ve got two macs networked through AirPort. I’m able to share files so I know the connection is working. I’ve tried a couple of the network samples but am not able to get them to work. I launch the game on both macs, set one to be the server go to the other and give the server mac’s IP yet no connection is found. What am I doing wrong?
If you are trying to use the UT Master Server with the networking demos, then you need to make sure the firewall on each Mac as well as your router has the right ports open (for testing purposes, the easiest thing to do is open the firewall wide open briefly). That’s because even if the games are talking to each other locally, they use the Internet to find each other through the Master Server.
Check the networking documentation for details.
We went through a lot of hair pulling and realized that one of our routers wasn’t compatible with NAT punchthrough, and had to replace it.
Thanks Doc.
I think the big roadblock for me is that I really don’t know much about networking and and even less than that about multi-player games. I was just hoping to try out some of the networking samples on my two macs.
