This pack includes various hexagonal textures suitable for any kind of Sci-Fi or cyberpunk setting (both clean hi tech and industrial) and some of variations should also work fine in contemporary locations.
The set contains 15 tilable normal maps, 45 specular maps and 65 diffuse maps + 4 glow maps + bonus PSD file.
Patterns come in three sizes (hexagon sizes, not resolution), and each size uses slightly different designs.
These designs have been further categorized into Convex, Concave and Flat.
Most of them have variations that feature different materials (for example opaque paint, bare steel, plastic, carbon fiber etc)
Lots of materials also have clean and worn/rusty variations, in future updates i’ll try to add such versions to all of them.
To make this pack more recyclable i’m attaching a PSD full of masks and overlays so it won’t be a problem to change the colors or material type, or add rust/dirt to a clean texture.
Resolution is 1024x1024 for all of maps.
Any feedback is welcome!
A version suitable for games that don’t use normal maps is in progress:
these two come from marmoset toolbag, while screengrabs from first post use xoliul viewport shader. That’s because marmoset takes the glow color info from the glow map while xoliul takes it from diffuse map. meaning that xoliul needs separate diffuse maps with glow “turned on” to make the effect look properly saturated.
i’m not sure how unity handles self illumination, but i can make additonal glowing diffuse maps if they are necessary.
I was thinking that the pack could also use a more mobile friendly versions of textures.
-what’s would be the best resolution? 256? 512? or something else?
-should they be turned into diffuse-only textures with baked lighting, or remain normal mapped? or include both?
also, does it matter to you if textures are turned into unity materials or just PNG maps in folders?
It seems that unity shaders require specular maps to be delivered as alpha maps of diffuse maps.
thing is, in the pack sometimes there’s a few different specular maps that fit the same diffuse map, giving it a different look.
You can buy the pack on the Asset Store now!
You will find it here:
During the first week of sales the price is only 5$!
also, if you have any ideas on how to improve it (for example how to handle mobile friendly version or turn textures into materials) please share them.
I’m especially curious if it’s possible to make unity materials with glow or color specular maps, while only using a free version.
Besides hexagonal stuff you also get a few nice tilable dirt/rust masks for general purposes inside the file.
The price is a steal considering the amount and quality of content so… buy!
haha yeah. i’m glad that you don’t think they got this adjective undeservedly.
Thanks for buying the pack. It’s very likely that i’ll make a bigger non-hexagon scifi set someday and this pack will complement it.
if you don’t have any sci-fi scenes currently you should totally put these on characters’ faces or foliage models.
Actually, you can replace skybox with hexagons too! just hexagon the shit out of everything and you got the graphical aspect of your game handled. for mere 5$.
ok, my birthday delayed the unevitable end of o discount but i’m about to submit the update with new price. This is the last chance to get the pack for mere 5$!
