Hi folks,
Today I wanted to work on my unity 3D game “Mikacraft”, but when I’ve created a project and it has loaded 75% of it, a very shitty fatal error occurs:
Shader compiler initialization error: Protocol Error - failed to read magic number.
If you can fix this very shitty and nasty fatal error, it’d be nice for me and all the other unity users. (The bug only occurs on macOS Monterey). And I would also be very happy to receive your feedback.
Sincerely yours,
Atten007

Hi @atten0007 ,
Please submit a bug report, so that we can investigate this.
Thank you!
Ok, and where can I do this?

I’d just like to note that this issue only occurs with Beta 6 of macOS Monterey. This beta also broke several apps by JetBrains. I expect it’ll be resolved with the next macOS beta and not something Unity has to address (still worthwhile checking into though). I submitted a bug report on this last week when Beta 6 was first released. Prior macOS Monterey betas broke Outlook and was later addressed in the next beta - without the app needing anything. These are just expected bumps when running an operating system beta. I use a secondary Mac to ensure updates are not breaking my workflow before installing on my primary system.
FYI - this issue is now resolved with Beta 7 of macOS Monterey, as expected. No Unity updates needed. Always test new OS betas on a secondary Mac first :).
