I’ve searched the forums and the web for help with this problem (spent a couple of hours looking), and though I found various suggested solutions, none of them has worked, so, in desperation, I’m asking here.
Just to pre-empt the usual responses:
I’m using 3.5.6f PRO
I’ve set light to cast shadows
I’ve set objects to cast and receive shadows
I’ve tried changing Rendering Path to “Deferred Lighting”
I’ve tried setting light rendermode to “important”
I’ve tried both hard and soft shadows
I’ve tried spot, point, and directional lights
I’ve tried viewing the web player version on various machines, with various OSs and browsers
I’ve tried changing render quality to “fantastic” (and tried all other levels, too)
In all cases I see the shadows correctly in the editor, but get no shadows in the web player version.
Any idea what else I might try to fix this problem?
I haven’t had this problem and hope I never do. I am about to launch a project that really depends on those beautiful soft shadows. I have been racking my brains for something for you to try and the only thing I can come up with is a couple of things you may have already tried.
Do you see the shadows in the game window or just in the scene window?
You say you get no shadows in the web player version. Have you tried building your project as a stand-alone? Just to see if you get shadows that way?
If you have shadows in the scene window and the game window and in a stand-along build, then it must be something in the build settings for browser builds. My apologies if you have already reasoned things out this far.
I hope somebody helps you with this because the thought of not having working shadows is very scary. Good luck!
Sorry, Zaffer, I’ve been away from my office and couldn’t check the project to answer your questions.
Now that I’m back, I can tell you that I see the shadows correctly in the editor in both the Scene view and the Game view. I also see them correctly in the Standalone versions. It is only in the Web Player version that the shadows are missing.
Did you check the default ‘Quality’ settings for webplayer?(Usually the default quality setting for Webplayer is “Good”) Shadows may be turned off, or the shadow distance could be very low. Hope this helps.
Thanks, Brilliantgames, that was the solution. I changed the default Web Player Quality setting, and now I see the shadows in the web player version. I thought I had the Quality settings set correctly, but I guess I misunderstood how those settings worked. It’s working now, in any case. Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my post.
