Shadows only appear when zoomed in? Why?

Since upgrading to Unity 3 Pro (from 2.6 pro) my shadows dont appear unless my camera is zoomed really far in. No settings have been changed in the existing scene/directional lights and the scene and they worked fine before. Has anyone else seen this problem?

In "Quality Setting", you have a parameter for shadow distance. But, the max shadow distance is 3o meters...
