shifting projects 3.4 to 3.5

Do you think, shifting a project from 3.4 built 70% to 3.5 is wise? Are there any benefits? Hazards?

Not to sure honestly… i know 3.5 has improvements / bug fixes to a few things that are just must haves if you dont do alot of scripting. EG : lightmapper has been fixed.

We actually recently begain a complete rewrite of our framework with 3.5 in mind, so hopefully theres no `issues ahead that we are not aware of. However, even the greatest things have issues here and there, so dont be alarmed, file a report if anything comes up. (Although , that said , at this time , unity seems pretty backedup with support)

IMHO - 70% you’re still in the place where you can work around any issues you encounter and you have enough time for testing to find problems, but I’d say you’re right on the cusp, and it would depend on how risk averse you are. There’s a lot of compelling benefits in the update for me, particularly in the changes made to facilitate teams, so I’m going to take the plunge and convert shipped projects. NaCl and Flash targets are pretty interesting too if you’re looking for platform coverage with your project.

There’s definitely risks. Things working slightly differently than 3.4, and possibly in subtle ways that might take a while to uncover. Bugs in brand new code, I’m especially wary of the change from binary formats to text formats. Though it’s a feature that’s been long in coming, converting is a little scary as information could get lost, there could be some horrible bugs that need an update to fix and could put your project at risk of not shipping. New editor problems could arise.

I am in the no side as having tilable textures that worked in 3.4 no longer do so in 3.5… this alone is a no go for me

Tileable textures not working , huh ? … i have lots of tileables , they work fine , or seem to be … O.o

Standard procedure is to duplicate your project folder to back it up. Then you can install the new version of Unity in a different location (e.g. “Unity_3_5” as opposed to simply “Unity” and make sure nothing breaks in your project. If it does, revert to 3.4.2 and your backed-up project.

Yah.
I think I will play it safe and stick n 3.4. It is doing everything I need so why would I switch? Unless 3.5 is BLAZINGLY faster then nah. I’ll stick where I am at.
Thanks.
!!!

I take this back ! I the texture settings had to be adjusted but this update is worth all the effort put into it if only for the sole purpose of gaining meaningful version control practices… This is a god send above all else, that and there is no more need to write batch scripts

I give my proper praise x10000
