should I switch to blender 2.5.3 for my game models?

hi, there~

just wondering if there were any problem for

blender 2.5.3 to work with unity?

i am currently using blender 2.49b, and thinking

about switch to 2.5.3 because it got the better user

interface but kind worry about it will not work well

with unity.

so~ suggestion anyone

I did it and it works for me. The automatic import into Unity does NOT work yet, but you can use the fbx export in Blender 2.53. I had no problems so far, that were not there with 2.49b.

Personally, I consider that a huge problem. I think somebody said they got it working, but 2.5.3 wouldn’t even respond to my scroll wheel when I turned it on so I just deleted it.

first, thanks for the replies

second, so the main problem will be no auto-import

for blender file, right?

well, i can live with that.

my concern is would the texture, armature and

animation done in blender work properly in unity~

if there were no such problem then i guess i will

switch to blender 2.5.3.

by the way, what is the problem with the scroll

wheel? is it happen in blender or in unity?

when i try to use blender 2.5.3, all mouse buttons

are working fine, though XD

Hi Jessy
I had the same problem with a scroll wheel (button press with it didn’t work as well), but it was not my one, so it wasn’t a big deal for myself.
Certainly automatic import would be nice. When I tried 2.5, I became comfortable with it. Now I don’t want to change back.
At the end it depends on what you prefer.

I prefer 2.5.x very much, aside from it not being usable!

I’m using Blender 2.5.x (I build my own from SVN) and I have no problems getting assets from Blender to Unity. UVs, animation, armatures, meshes the whole lot goes through.

The only problem I have is Blender being Z-up and Unity being Y-up, a problem I’m slowly but surely fixing in Blender (when my results are perfected I’ll share it with the community).

hope to hear the good news soon

Why not usable? Did you face other problems? Certainly the auto import for Unity does not yet work, but with that exception I didn’t have problems that were not present in 2.49b.
