should i use photoshop or lightroom for sprites?

hi, i should use photoshop or lightroom for create my sprites for a game?

Definitely Photoshop.
Lightroom is mostly for file handling, image toning/editing.

You can also try GIMP which is free and equivalent of Photoshop.

ty i will try it

Afinite Photo can do the job pretty good, too.

so which u reccomend me ? gmp, photoshop, afinite or krita?

Photoshop is industry standard.
GIMP is a free alternative.
Lightroom is literally a program specifically for editing nothing but photographs.

Everything else is not really on the board, but explore if the Pshop/GIMP are somehow not fitting your needs.

ok i will look ps and gmp ty

I would still recommend affinity it is quite similar to photoshop and can do a lot photoshop can do. And it is only 50 bucks.
If you want to use quixel, you won’t be able to avoid photoshop.

but i should try affinity photo or affinity dessigner?

Photo is like Photoshop, designer is a vector based image app

sp designer is like illustrator of adobe?

afaik yes

ty, when i have the money or a trial version i will test it

Actually, photoshop can technically handle sprites…but if you are referring to lower resolution, palette based sprites, like pixel art, there are lots of better options that I haven’t seen mentioned here. My favorite program(not free) is Cosmigo’s Pro Motion. It is used by a good amount of professionals and has many features dedicated to pixel art. Photoshop can do pixel art, but it isn’t really dedicated to it, and in general is overkill for this specific type/style.

If you are talking about something higher rez, then it may or may not be pixel art. Photoshop can indeed handle lots of types of art, but I’ve seen amazing stuff created in Krita as well. Krita is a different type of software compared to photoshop, being more dedicated to actual painting, with an amazing brush engine, which is where in my opinion photoshop can lack in comparison. If you want a hand painted style, or some sort of artsy style, then I would highly recommend Krita. It is free, while photoshop generally is not.

You can basically use ANY graphics software to create sprites
e.g Clipstudio is nice too
