Should Unity remove the splash screen from Personal Edition ?

Decided to move to UE4 because Unity PE did not gave up the splash screen

The splash screen just killing any effort to make an indy or an individual to earn money and pay the PRO version.

Why Unity feels so insecure and does not remove the splash screen ?

I believe because their target group of developers are individuals or very small indy teams.

Anyway in UE4 you pay no royalty for film projects, contracting and consulting projects such as architecture, simulation and visualization that I am interested in.

Its not the 4500$ that are required to buy unity pro + android pro + ios pro its because if you want to make a non-profit project is a lot of money. (I was almost convinced to pay but I believed that after UE4 is completely free - without splash screen - why I shouldn’t move ?)

The splash screen for the psychology of the end users it gives the feeling that the app is so trivial. The removal is very important. Personal Edition should have the same feature as the PRO version for the Splash Screen.

I hope soon Unity to understand that it will take many away from them and the removal of unity splash screen In the long run will bring more developers (from any range from indy to great studios) to them.

Ah this again. This was asked before and talked about to the cows come home.
So basically you can’t make a game in Unity due to a splash screen so you moved to another engine. And we care why? So you are using another engine. Great for you! But before you leave you feel the need to post a thread about something that has been discussed at length.
Some deal with it while others find the need to tell the reason why. Whatever.
Good luck and hope it all works out for you.
Hmm I can’t remember the splash screens that eso has and I played it all weekend. Damn game has splash screens. Must delete!

I think this is because of the false impression that games made with unity are inherently bad or perform poorly or some other illogical thinking. That’s exactly the same as saying “It’s important not to have a black person on the sign of a company” because you’re afraid that people (albeit very stupid people) will judge your product or entity based on such an insignificant detail.

So instead of giving in to such immature and uninformed thinking, how about we make better games so that when people see the Unity splash screen they think “hey great, this is made with unity”.

If that detail is so important to you I wish you luck with UE4, it’s an amazing engine for sure. But arguing about the Unity splash screen is like arguing the wheel bolts on a $300K super car.

Unity wants people to associate “personal edition” with trash instead of associating “unity” with trash. It’s not going away.

Ah, this thread again.
People that are so far away from releasing their game (or anything at all), that they find dumb excuses to not work on it for as long as they can, by… switching engines, building a new pc, “gathering a team”, etc.
Go and do your freaking game. If it’s good enough, people won’t care what engine you use or what logo you show.

No, it shouldn’t be removed. However it should simply state “made with Unity”, like older splash did.

Here are some other software that has “Personal Edition”:

Notice the common theme? Yep, they are for non-commercial use only.

It doesn’t matter that Unity’s “personal edition” can be used commercially. It really doesn’t. What matters is that in all other cases “personal edition” means “you can’t use it for work” and people will get confused.

And don’t forget the dark skin. Because Unity is forcing me to use the light skin, I’ve become blind.
Who needs features anyway? Come on Unity, it’s 2015, you’re not supposed to get any money for your work.

I understand the problem with the personal edition, but I’m growing really tired with these threads.

Nahh, as a gamer you don’t give a half fuck whether the developers properly licensed their software. However you will associate “personal edition” with garbage if all you’ve seen from media is garbage made with it.

I’m pretty sure some people will call the cops or something. And “personal edition” thing may hurt KS/IGG campaigns since someone may (unjustifiably) flag projects with this shown, and then it gets removed by KS/IGG staff.

Again, common perception is that “personal edition” = “you can’t use it for work”.

And I’m not saying splash should be removed, just changed so it doesn’t say “personal edition”, just “made with Unity”.

It could indeed hurt kickstarter campaigns as your backers might not know what it is, but then you can just not show the the splash screen in your video ?

I’m pretty sure if you called the cops and said a game you play isn’t licensed they’ll tell you to go away or contact the developer and then nothing happens.

If you can not pay for the pro version … ok but if you can not even be bothered with showing which company provided the GameEngine you are using FOR FREE then i have no respect for you.
If you are so professional, build an awesome game, earn money using your game and buy to pro version to get rid of the splash screen. Very easy.

Noone has a problem with showing a “made with unity” screen. The problem is the “personal edition” below it.

If the player is judging your game on the splash screen / personal edition text your game is simply bad.

We’ve been through this and the answer is no, and it’s not negotiable.
