Significantly longer Enter-To-Play mode

I’ve been testing 2019.3 from alpha and I noticed it takes significantly longer to enter the play mode compared to 2019.1.

My current project takes about 30 seconds to enter the play mode in 2019.1 and it takes about 33 seconds in 2019.3

2019.2 is also slower than 2019.1, thus the reason why I’m still using 2019.1. I waited for two release cycles hoping that it will get fixed but it’s still the same and I really like to upgrade to 2019.3 when it releases.

What changed? Unity Editor always gets slower as the version updates and I’m really tired of the sluggish editor. Please do something about the dog slow Editor and it drives me crazy!

30 seconds to enter the play mode is insane and this is one of the reasons why I waited for so long for the Fast Enter-To-Play mode. But it will take a while before all assets supports it.

Anyway, until I can use the Fast Enter-To-Play mode, I’m stuck with the Slow Enter-To-Play mode and 2019.3 will make it even worse.

Is this a feature by design? or simply a bug?

Unity should do some tests before it releases unless you can explain why it’s a feature.
Just download 40 also the most popular assets and do some performance tests.

That’s true:

Peter, were you able to get anything from them? You reported the same issue early June and nothing seems to be changed. I hope they don’t come back and say, yeah “it’s a feature by design” from feature creep. Easy for them to say and we are paying for it without even knowing why.

Regardless, we will continue to suffer until Unity completely gets rid of AppDomain reload.
I won’t back down until we get what we promised, under 500ms recompile/reload.
30s is still unbelievable but hey, it’s better than 33s.
I’m cursing myself why I chose Unity.
It was fast to start but what matters is when we cross the finish line.
It seems like it will be no different from using UE4 and the finished quality will be also a lot different.
So sad…

you can do this in 19.3: Configurable Enter Play Mode

(if your project doesn’t break)

Yeah, but it’s not the same. I love to use it but there are too many assets that are not compatible.
In my opinion, Unity should be more keen on quality control and provide more strict guidelines when publishing the asset. Making it compatible with fast enter-to-play mode should not be optional.

I don’t know the status to be honest. The original bug-report was just closed, yet the report in the public issue tracker has been marked as “fixed in 2019.3”.

I guess I have to test it again with the latest beta and check if it improved. I’m going to update the other thread, perhaps someone from Unity is able to provide more info.

Yeah, they are so sloppy how they handle bugs. I wouldn’t bring it up if Unity Editor is snappy but it’s dog slow to begin with. Any performance regression should be treated as serious bugs.
