It looks like an upgraded version of Blush. Does anyone have any information about if they are relative at all? Which one is made first? Which one is a clone of another, if there is a case of cloning at all?
Blush was made first, I believe, but there is a developer’s diary on the UDK site that may give more insight into your questioning.
I really think that Whizzle looks damn close to a “sincerest form of flattery” rip-off, in gameplay terms, but Blush never really had much depth to begin with (not saying that I don’t love the game, but it’s based around a time clock and one primary objective).
Blush was developed from January 1st to March 1st. As far as I know Blush was first (we certainly weren’t aware of Whizzle until recently). The timestamps in their source .zip file range from September to November, if that’s an indication. I couldn’t find other mention of their development window.
For the record, I don’t feel like they “cloned” us at all. It’s difficult to apply art treatment to an underwater environment that isn’t going to look somewhat similar to other underwater stuff. We consciously tried to distance ourselves from fl0w and other underwater games. The Whizzle pacing looks different, too; it looks more like a platformer. I haven’t booted to Windows long enough to actually play it yet, though…
