I’m messing around with a flashlight at the moment, and I have a question (of course).
I first tried to get a totally black level (-minus skybox for now). I found a post that said change the ambient lighting, and that took care of one question.
I was trying to get it to show on the terrain and not just the cube. I searched and found a post that said use pixel lighting. That took care of my second question, it also mentioned calculate the lightmap to take care of the bright ring that appears all around in the distance.
I did that, and it left the ring. It did change it to a color reflecting the texture on the ground however. Is there any way at all to get the light to appear on the objects (like the cube), on the ground, and not have any weird ring in the distance?
I tried changing all the spotlight settings to with no effect
.
I tried the base map distance setting, turning it down made the ring come closer to me. I thought I had it figured out. Turning it up will only push it out so far though, as far as it is in the picture. Past 1000 has no effect that I can see.
EDIT
Well I never…
My thinking, “I want it dark so no light except the spotlight on the flashlight.”
I left out a directional light, figuring if I was just going to turn it off, why add it? It makes sense to me.
I’d calculate light map and there was that bleeping ring. I had ambient light to black, no directional light, and I had followed what I had found in a few posts, but that darn ring persisted.
Out of curiousity, I added a directional light and turned it off, the ring persisted. Iset the intensity to 0 on the directional light and turned it on. I then calculated a light map again…
The scene is totally black like I wanted with no ring in the distance.
My only remaining question is why do I need a directional light with 0 intensity to get a totally dark scene? Why won’t not having one work? I am just asking this part out of curiousity.
In my mind it’s like having a light bulb that is burnt out in your room. If you unscrew the bulb and throw it away the room is lit around the edges. If you screw it back in and flip the switch to on, the burnt out bulb somehow makes your room totally dark.
:?
Can you post the lightmap that was generated for your Terrain? It should be pure black if I’m understanding what you want to achieve here.
It works now, it just requires that I have a directional light with an intensity of zero turned on in the scene when I calculate the map. Now I was just wondering why it required a light that emits no light to create total darkness.
