Hi everyone!
Relatively new to Unity.
I need to import certain floor plans to Unity. I know that the best option is to do it in Blender, but it’s so “simple” what I need to do, that for someone completely new like me, to understand the complexity of Blender for such a easy model, it’s better to do it in SketchUP.
However, if it turns out to be “impossible” what I need to do in SketchUP, I’ll migrate to Blender.
Unity Version: 2019.4.1f1
SketchUp 2020
Follows my questions regarding the import of SketchUP → Unity:
What is the best way, regarding format file or method to import into Unity? I’m trying to do by the "Assets → Import New Asset… " and I’m having the error as:
As I’m not succeeding to import like this, I’m doing by exporting .dae or .fbx on SketchUP.
.dae or .fbx?
My Sketchup is on meters. I exported from the same file, at the “same time”, .dae and .fbx.
When importing both to Unity, .dae is converted to inches and .fbx is on correct scale. WHY???
I KNOW SketchUP isn’t the same as Blender regarding Hierarchy management, however, I want to know if there’s a way out for me.
Both formats behave differently regarding the “Hierarchy” from SketchUP, now called Outliner. For some reason, .dae create instances above every object on my model, as for the fbx, it creates a Mesh as a child on every object. Below follow a screen shot of the same part of the hierarchy.
SketchUP
DAE on Unity
FBX on Unity
Hope it’s clear to everyone!!
Note that I’m only using SketchUP for the ease of making a 3D model out of an AutoCAD .dwg. I’m not bound to it by any means.
If anyone has a suggestion or any other app/process that would make my life easier, I’m totally open to it.
Thanks in advance!!! Any help is welcome!
