Skin weights destroyed upon importing FBX from Maya

Hello all. I’m at my wits’ end. I’ve tried every option and solution possible I’ve found in forums, documentation etc.

I have a character in Maya. It’s animated and looks nice in Maya viewport (no mesh subdivision preview). I export the model and animations separately (I’ve also tried together). The moment I import it into Unity, the rigging for the model is destroyed from the torso up (this is the only area that has animations).

Any ideas?

I solved it, for some reason changing the bone limit in the rig tab of the imported file doesn’t affect the global setting (which is low).

Go to Edit - Project Settings - Quality - Skin Weights (4).
