I am trying to use Gimp to create some Skymaps, the goal is the take the bellow image(or something similar) and map it to a cube like in the example output at the bottom. I’m not even sure where to start. Is it easier to map it out in Blender? or are there some good free tools available for this task? Photo-shop sadly is not a option. I know I need to create the 6 six sides but not to sure on the best method/workflow.
I think you can generate them inside Unity (haven’t tried yet but it’s definitely on my bucket list). You would create a scene and set up a sky then add your clouds and whatever else around a camera and…
“This function is mostly useful in the editor for “baking” static cubemaps of your Scene. See wizard example below. If you want a realtime-updated cubemap, use RenderToCubemap variant that uses a RenderTexture with a cubemap dimension, see below”
Thanks for the info, Id rather get it working through Gimp as that would mean knocking up some 3d models as well for the clouds and so on, the results do look good though
