So, I was hoping we’d get some cool new audio features in Unity 2.0. There are a couple, but one glaring omission, as far as I can tell, is the ablitiy to play an audio file from a certain position (sample or millisecond-wise). I want to use a GUI slider to control where you are in the file, like you see with sound and movies all over the place in Quicktime and Flash players. However, I don’t see any way to do this within Unity. Is this not doable for the time being?
Something that leads me to believe there is hope is the following sentence, but I’m not sure exactly what is delivered yet: “When you play the Movie, the Audio Clip will always play synchronized to the movie.”
…which is essentially the same feature set we get for controlling audio. I was really excited to see movie support as a 2.0 feature, when the 2.0 excitement-building page went up a few months ago. I figured that we could start putting video portfolios up in Unity web player pages, amongst other things. Without having essential playback control, however, I can’t see myself using this feature in this manner. It has become common lately for bands to disallow playback control on their MySpace pages, and YouTube doesn’t let you have anything close to frame-by-frame control. I am not willing to channel the anger that kind of thing brings me to anyone else.
This has now become a wish list item. Please help me with my cause!
