I bought an Acer G226HQL monitor to use as a 2nd display for Unity on my 2012 Mac Mini. I already have an Acer X223HD using a display port to VGA converter, it works perfectly. The new monitor is connected via the included apple HDMI to DVI-D converter.
Everything looks good, in the settings I get all the settings for both monitors however the 2nd monitor just says no signal.
I tried the monitor on it’s own and still no signal. I assume everything is working as it should as Mountain Lion ‘sees’ the monitor but I get no signal. I’ve tried different resolutions but nothing makes any difference.
Thanks for the reply, it’s not a Radeon in there it’s a Intel HD Graphics 4000.
I can’t swap ports as my main monitor is VGA only, through a thunderbolt to vga converter and the other monitor is vga or dvi-d. I’ve got that plugged in to the hdmi to dvi-d converter that came with the mac mini.
I plugged the vga lead from my other monitor in to my 2nd monitor along with the dvi cable and it worked, the monitor allowed me to select dvi as the input through the monitors menu. I thought that would do the trick but as soon as i remove the VGA cable to put it back in my main monitor I get the ‘cable not connected’ message on screen. It seems to need both cables connected which is really odd.
OK, so after a few hours of testing different configurations it turns out the issue is when the monitor is connected to the Mac Mini. For some reason the signal isn’t coming through however the mac ‘sees’ the monitor when i turn it on.
I tested the monitor in vga mode, dvi-d mode and also using the apple hdmi to dvi-d adapter on a PC and all work fine, so i’m 100% the Mac Mini is doing something to screw it up.
