Slow Loading.

Hello Everybody.
The person I have made this for told me it often loads very slow: http://www.octografx.com/Lightrider-web.html

I have tried on several computers (with different internet connections). And I couldn’t discover anything abnormal.

Anyway, Is there a function to make this load faster?

Thanks.

Sometimes people say “it loads slow” when in fact “it runs slow”. Maybe that’s the case here? (I just tried it on quite a decent machine, and it runs at 2FPS - maybe you’re doing something that is very slow)

If it’s really “it loads slow” as in “progress bar moves slowly”, check by putting some arbitrary file of different size on your webserver. And tell the user to try to download it. Maybe his internet connection is just really slow.

Thanks for the reply. I think they mean it loads slow as in “progressbar”. I wonder why it would run on 2fps on your machine? That concerns me even more :).

I have seen it running on a crappy laptop and it was still running quite allright. Maybe I have done something wrong with the multiple camera’s?

If it “loads slow” as in the progress bar then that means that your file size is large and/or you’re not using any streaming features (or your server is just slow at delivering content). I can say that I just loaded it and for an apparently simple scene it did take a bit long to load, my connection is reasonably fast too. Look into our streaming features and abilities to ease that load time if possible.

As to frame rates, I just tested on my MacBook Pro and got well over 2fps.

Well the payload is ~6MB (thank you Safari Web Inspector) which isn’t huge. The actual demo runs a little slow for me (~10fps … just guesstimating) – I have an original 2.67GHz Mac Pro (quad core) with an ATI HD3870 … which is pretty high end.

Same here.

The progress bar filled up quickly for me, but there was a short pause after that, which does not help in the perception of quickness.

LOL, ok thanks guys. I must have done something very wrong. I am going to see what I can do about that today! Ill let you know if I think I have a solution!

Ok, I think I have solved the problem. I forgot to turn off subdivision on some elements… making the poly count massive! Thanks for the advice!
