Smeared text

At some screen sizes, all the GUI text (such as GUI.Label) is unreadable. For example, at 1920x1440 text looks like
, but at 2560x1600 it looks like . There is no degradation in the rendering of other objects, just text. 1280x800 works OK, which is the same aspect ratio as 2560x1600.

This happens whether I use a GUIStyle or accept the default with

GUI.Label(Rect(25, 25, 300, 30), "Press Space Bar for Menu");

It happens even with a fresh, minimal project built using 2.6.1. It happens fullscreen and windowed. (Fails at 2048x1536 windowed – can’t select 2560x1600) I’m building on a Mac and running in Standalone mode on Vista.

I would suspect the graphics driver, but projects built using 2.1 work at all resolutions on this monitor (Dell 3008WFP).

Has anyone else had this experience? Can you suggest experiments to narrow down the problem further?

Yes you are not alone! :frowning:
Running any 2.6 Unity exe at 2048x1536 or 2560x1600 will display corrupted GUI and extremely low res textures. Not sure if anyone plans to address the problem.

Glad to hear from you! I suspect this is some interaction between the code generated in Unity 2.6 and the graphics driver on my machine, because I can run the same executable on another machine, at high resolution, without a problem and I can run earlier Unity 2.1 code on this machine without a problem.

I’m running NVidia Quadro FX 5800 boards with 4 GB of memory on them. When I look at the log file from a game, it always shows VRAM: -1 MB and says
D3D: VRAM amount suspiciously low (less than 32 MB for PS2.0 card)

I suspect this is related. Do you see this, too?

I’m running Windows 7 Home 64bit on an nVidia gtx285 with 2gb of ram on it.
I also tested in VMWare running Windows XP 32bit and it worked fine there.

I haven’t tested any earlier version of Unity than 2.6, and I can’t check ram or logs atm (at work).

Also of interest - this is from another thread by Moocher who is having the same issue:
“I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS on a Dell Precision 7500 with Dual, Quad-Core Xeons, 24 GB ram, Nvidia Quadro FX 5800 driving two Dell 30” displays using DVI connectors."
