How can I get perfectly smooth terrain? I know there is the smooth height tool but it only helps a little bit. I need perfectly smooth hills to drive on. For some reason there are always minor bumps in hills that can never be smoothed out, it might be minor by just looking but it looks terrible when driving over they have to be perfectly smooth.
Make a single large plane or cube with a single giant face that spans the whole area of your scene.
Anything else is simply asking āhow many angels fit on the head of a pin?ā Itās just numbers and distances.
For instance, your car can drive over a pencil pretty easily, but that same pencil will stop a small matchbox car.
Keep smoothing until it is smooth enough.
Are you attempting to create roads in/on the terrain, or is it kinda just off road driving on the terrain? The thing is, even Easy Roads, an asset designed specifically for roads, can leave your vehicle bottom out , scraping chassis IF the grades are too steep. Its much like this in a real vehicle too.
Even in a real car, you will feel little bumps. Outside of what Kurt has already said, the only thing i would add is , maybe dont use terrain directly for your driving surface. IMO, its really not good at all for a direct surface. Custom meshes, EasyRoads, etc. Theres better ways to get the job done.
Iām creating roads with a tool. Its not the tool though its the terrain hills I canāt smooth out. If you can tell from these images the top of the hill always has bumps in it, they are small but really a big deal when driving over.

Ahh, ok , well i see you are using ER. The thing to make sure of is that your road grades are not too steep. The start, and end of inclines / declines should be a little more gradual. I can tell you right now that i can see the edging with my bare eyes in that photo. Try and reduce the incline slightly, the less the grade, the smoother it should be.
smooth as can beā¦
just a little bumpiness im still smoothing out on this grade.
NOTE: You do not need to smooth terrain with Easy Roads, when you buld the road, it will countour the terrain accordingly under and around the roads. You can even lower, raise the road with the roads nodes, then after you ābuildā look for the setting āroad heightā, which will allow you to raise the entire network slightly, so you are ensured you are not touching terrain.
I canāt recall off the top of the head, but ER may also have a tiling setting that controls the mesh face count. (i really dont rememeber atm) if it does, more faces can lead to smoother surface, but tbh, i havent needed that yet. With a little TLC, the roads work out great.
I suspect that you may well actually end up feeling the ābumpā of easy roads itself, as the roads still need to be within a reasonable grade to feel like reasonable roads.

Its not easy roads its called Pro Roads, I believe they are almost the same thing though I never used Easy Roads. But thanks Iāll try your suggestions.
OH? Hah, yea, they really do look alot alike (i only quickly glanced). Roads be roads i guess. ![]()
I suspect that your tool has the same ability to mould the terrain the way it needs to when building / finalizing a road network. If you want any other information, etc, you can find my discord above.
Cheers.
