Snap package for Unity Hub on Linux

I think having a snap package for Unity Hub would be nice to have. They are pretty easy to make and supported across 41 Linux distros https://snapcraft.io/.

Hi,

Technically we could support this although it would imply some tweaking in our build pipeline. We’ll look into it.

Best,

Hi Abraham,

I understand and if this is something you guys end up doing I’m here to help in anyway I can. I’ve been making snap packages for a while now.

Best,
Michael

Thanks! I spoke to the team and apparently we tried in the past but our framework (Electron) had trouble with auto-updates when the app was packaged that way. We might try again when we update to a newer version of the framework.

Hi Abraham,

Thanks, for getting back to me and auto-update issues for Electron have fixed in Snapcraft v3.0.0. But when ever you and the team are ready to give snaps another try I’m here to answer any questions. Also, one last thing before I leave if you or anyone on the team lives in the Montreal, Canada area and is interested in learning more snaps about. There will be a Snapcraft Summit in June. https://snapcraft.io/blog/snapcraft-summit-montreal

@Mikerr1011 I see that there’s a unofficial flatpak version of the launcher, I don’t know much bout snaps but, can’t we do the same?

Maybe we could setup a GitHub actions to automatically generate and submit it to snapcraft, just as the unofficial flatpak does
