I know the new features and everything, but I’d like to hear from some people that used it… how is it?
meh.
to me its just a engine Upgrade
That’s a really well balanced and informative answer lol.
lol this says everything
Mechanim is a huge time saver (especially if you pull in MoCap files ) iOS mobile gaming lighting, shaders and shadows kick as…
So Unity4 is solid … the main question is more regarding Unity4 and 3rd party assets. such as PlayMaker, Ai Driver Tool Kit etc… etc… do they handle Unity4 ??
It seems stable and some issues with the last beta have disappeared, but the performance (at least in my project) is not better than in 3.5.6 despite of the supposed improvements in the GUI and others.
I think one of the main new features, Mecanim, is a tool too specialised and complex for the average Unity user.
It’s incredible. Mecanim is a big time and money saver. Perhaps if all you are doing is making more “match 3” games, it’s nothing, but for anything with bipeds, it’s simply amazing, and the best thing to happen to 3d gaming engines, ever.
I’m using mechanim and it’s giving me trouble getting it to work.
I love the retargeting animations. It’s a great way to use place-holder animations while your own animations is in the making process.
Mecanim is a great state machine as well. Just think of the possibilities. I could see it being used for AI and UI.
i liked 4.2 better! (oh wait… steps out of the timemachine… )
I’m still an amateur/novice with Unity, and I very much agree with this. I don’t understand animation as a whole enough to even know what Mechanim does that is so much better than the current system. I’m not saying it doesn’t do anything, I just don’t know what it does…“more”. Probably more a problem with my lack of experience, more than anything.
But, it seems to be very welcome to those who have experience with that area.
Same opinion here. Really struggling with Mecanim for now but then its been only a few days. Besides, I’m hoping the experts out there will put out a few good tutorials.
Love the terrain normal mapping though
