Enjoy
Quite. That’s why smart indies don’t work in the industry.
Awesome !
This should be stickied, really.
Please, Andeee ?
Loved it!
This is fantastic, but also an important concept to grasp. Thanks for posting.
No Problemo just thought that it would be of some use to the community
Wow… That would be my 2nd sticky on this forum
That’s more than some UT staff!
Actually this is kinda wrong.
If you actually know how to model or program, you can get in quite a good aaa team. The trick is to get into a medium sized team/company.
Valve for example.
Working in an AAA company isn’t nearly as bad, but it’s true, it’s a business, they exist to make money, so you should expect to be doing what they want, not what you want.
I’d work in such a company just for the sake of meeting other developers during a lunch break.
I think that i draws really good picture to newbies who want to start in gamming industry.
More than any other point, I had to laugh when he said he wanted to work at Rockstar.
Loved it!
I bookmarked this last night and was going to upload but figured I would wait till the typical noob thread started and slam dunk it there for chuckles. You blew my gambit! Well, this thread can be linked as the answer to the noob styled threads.

I was a software dev working in the aerospace market before getting in the game industry (yes, i love games ), I’ve worked in various studios in Quebec Canada including Gameloft. Sad but true, that’s how the game business is. Like any other business. Everyone wanna make money. Unless you get independent and make successful games to self-funds your own projects, but even at the independent level, the work wont change, you must focus on your clients (gamers, instead of your own great barbie trololocat idea ^^), you’ll have to work pretty hard and forget about free spare time to get things done on time.
Any newbie watching this one will get a complete false idea of game industry:
I like this one from extra credits… It’s less funny but actually quite informative. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2443-So-You-Want-to-be-a-Game-Designer
No thanks… I’ve already got a job that I like with better benefits. And with tools like unity, I can make my own damn games.
Excellent, this one gets an award from me. This is realy great and get it to the point.
Nowadays everyone 12-16 years old Kid comes along engines like UNITY.
And what happens ? - Try to making another MMORPG and dreaming from beeing an WOW Killer
Without knowledge about technik, modelling or scripting.
I love that video!
Bookmarked… and forwarded
Cheers,
Galen
tatoforever > That one was funny in some way too
I couldn’t stop looking the big yellow screen at the back… what is even going on back there? is that a zeppelin? and what’s with the clipping hills? it just drove me crazy during the whole animation!
Err… no.
I can see a lot of posts coming up in the future with a link to this, though
