SocialPlay Dungeon Fighter, Open Beta!

Hey guys,

I would like to introduce our new game Dungeon Fighter. We have been developing it in secret for about 1 year now, and I would like to make its first introduction here on the forums, of the engine that made it come to life.

Just a bit about my development team. We are a small indie team and we have made a few casual games for Facebook since about 2010. This is our first big 3D title. We need all the support we can get!

Our mission behind this game: we tried to make everything as player/socially driven and dynamic as we could.

Dungeon Fighter Key features (Now Open Beta)

  • 3D dungeon crawler.
  • Web and Facebook play.
  • Over 50,000 items to collect and level up with. Looking at doubling that soon.
  • Two classes for now, Mage and Warrior. Will be adding more.
  • Character leveling, unlock new items or skills.
  • Dozens of Skill Scrolls. These are items, which when dragged into your hot bar, give your character new abilities. You can combine 5 skills to create a warrior type that no one has seen before. You can loot these skills off dead enemies.
  • Detailed crafting system, discover new recipes, craft unique items with a rare chance for a powerful added ability. Craft your own more powerful skill scrolls.
  • Different enemy types and bosses to fight.
  • When defeating the dungeon by defeating the final boss, you are able to unlock the treasure chest. This gives you access to any loot a previously defeated player has dropped.
  • Much More!

  • At level 5, unlock ability to change sides, create a dungeon boss character, and start building your own dungeon. Which brings me to the next game in the series.

Dungeon Forge Key Features (Private Beta)

  • Top down 3D building simulator.
  • Different dungeon boss characters to choose from.
  • Dig rooms, tunnels, mazes with your imps.
  • Equip your boss with thousands of different items and skill scrolls.
  • Spawn hundreds of minions along with their lairs to defend your dungeon.
  • Set up strategic minion spawn points in key places
  • Upgrade your minion lairs
  • Place dozens of traps that can be designed with very tricky triggers and sequences.
  • Research new lairs, traps and technologies.
  • Mine resources to support your dungeon and minions, but make sure it is well defended as other players can steal from it.
  • Treasure chest allows you to collect any loot an invading player had upon their death and equip it on your boss, or sell it for resources to build an even greater dungeon.
  • See dungeon events that happened while you were offline. Screen shots of player deaths, when they died and what killed them in your dungeon.
  • Will be open beta a few months after Fighter is open beta, but you will receive early private beta access by reaching level 10 in Fighter. (Level 5 after open beta).

Sneak Peak Images:

Those are just some of the key features, there are many more but I didn’t want to make this post too long. The two games work together, providing player created content and progression that should make both of them more engaging and competitive. What do you guys think?

Things to come during or after Beta.

  • Player trading/Player driven economy.
  • Multi-player Phase 1: You can hire your Facebook friends dungeon boss, to help guard your dungeon. Up to 4 friends.
  • Multi-player Phase 2: In real time you can connect to a dungeon currently being invaded by a real player and help defend it, you will automatically get paid the advertised amount or reward items set by the dungeon lord. Think of these as real time player driven quests.
  • Multi-player Phase 3: Stop players from invading your dungeon real time. Whenever you are online during the time of an invasion, you can take control of your dungeon boss, using any abilities and equipment you have given him, try to stop the invading player.

Thanks everyone!

That’s a nice interesting game you got there!
I’ll be waiting for the release

Hey guys,

Adding some new screen shots. I realised I didn’t post much combat action.

Hey guys,

Another update. Just a quick video, will be redoing it a bit better soon.

A shot of our crafting system, and some of the items I have

That looks great, love the materials in the dungeons. Definitely something I would play

Thanks for the feed back guys.

We are currently redoing our boss animation with our new kinect motion capture system. I will upload a new video with the Mage at that point.

I am thinking of putting together a video of how we did really affordable motion capture for unity3d if you guys would find that useful.

And just a recap of what we have left to finish before we go public beta

  • 3d model bag for resource drop (as you could see in video and pics, its just a unity3d box).
  • Item system bugs. maybe about a dozen left.
  • AI performance improvement. Currently using RAIN, might continue or switch. Any suggestions on AI 3rd party system of choice?
  • Make our dungeon list look pretty

Woah guys, really amazing work. Congratulations on your beta! its great to see such dedication to a project.

Cant wait for the public beta! How do you apply for the closed beta? I may have missed read some parts. sorry if its contained.

-Charlie

Nice Ty Charlie, Yes I shouldn’t neglect twitter, we post everything there as well

You post your facebook and twitter links but not a link to go to the site where the game is held for future play? Isn’t that a bit backwards? Interested to see how this pans out though. Good luck guys.

For future reference as well, how soon is “soon”, days, weeks, months?

Edit: Potential problem I can foresee after seeing your site. Is signing in via facebook the only way to get into the game? I realize this will attract a certain crowd but it will chase away others if there isn’t another option?

Brilliant idea, I wish the graphics was slightly more stylized and eye-candy (and perhaps lower poly also). Good luck, I’ll certainly check it out when it’s finished.

Hi RaskVann,

Thanks for the suggestions, just some thoughts in regards to some of them:

We had not posted a link to our public site based of a decision to update our public site first before we put up the link. Soon I am hoping is weeks. I made a post describing the features/fixes that had to be completed before it went public, I am hoping 2-3 weeks.

In regards to player authentication, besides Facebook login, we do have guest mode. We have considered implementing our own account creation method, but, with Open Authenticaton becoming so popular these days, I think like myself, people would much rather login with an existing Google or Facebook account, then spend time filling in redundant account creation data.

Though if I see there is a need for it from people asking, I will definitely implement it.

Thank you dr.steam,

Could you please go into more detail about what your ideas are of slightly more stylized and eye-candy?

Also, All our models were designed with the lowest poly/efficiency in mind to make our mobile port fairly transparent, but I’m glad it doesn’t look that way, I hope that’s what you mean’t by the low poly comment

I am sure there is room for improvement, so if you guys have any suggestions on technique for reducing it even further, it would be much appreciated. I have added a screenshot to give you an idea of our poly count.

Main Characters; Warrior and Mage: 4k polys each

I’m sure you could reduce it if you wanted to but since it’s being released on the PC you should at least have some options to up the anty to higher resolution textures and models. It’s great your designing for porting in mind though. Thanks for the response to my own inquiry as well. This shouldn’t be your first priority but down the road you should probably look into it, especially if you start getting some attention.

About your previous comment, I have no idea if you have the time or can point me in the right direction but my own game will also need some sort of login system in order to keep track of who owns what and I haven’t gotten to the stage where I need to implement it. What are your own opinions about logging in with Google or a similar system? Are the pro’s/con’s that I should be aware of. Are there any other solutions that you thought were good choices and why didn’t you choose them? Any and all information you might be able to offer would be a HUGE help.

Please update this post on release, I’d like to check it out and give some feedback where needed.

Thanks in advance for keeping us posted

RaskVann,

I would suggest using a login method with an Open Authentication method, such as; FaceBook, Google, Twitter. We plan on supporting all these login methods. We use SQL to link internal ID’s to the 3rd Party ID’s from those services, that way we can keep track of item ownership, game progress, etc. This even allows you to link multiple logins together, say if they want to share on FaceBook and Twitter at the same time.

So its not really about a choice, support them all, its possible and makes sense. I think having your own account creation is so 90’s :stuck_out_tongue:

There are a bunch of OpenID tutorials you can start with, here is some official Google doc: OpenID Connect  |  Authentication  |  Google for Developers

Thanks for the response, I’ll take that as an endorsement and look into it. Since payment, gameplay, forums and website should preferably all use the same login system it may or may not be the way of choice but I appreciate the wave in what will hopefully be the right direction. Looking forward to your beta, take care.

New video covering the PVE creatures should be up by tomorrow
