This only happens on a build, this does not happen at all in the editor.
I am at my wits end already
Anyone have any idea of what could be causing this?

it was a fix for some very specific bug underwater. something to do with setting animation speed to 0
god knows why it did not happen on editor and only on a built game
Animators start to get finicky when you start messing with things ‘out of the ordinary’. I’ve found issues with animation speed, animation layer blending, layer masks, layer blending weights, etc. they never quite behave the way you want or expect and always require testing on device as well as in editor.
The one thing i have found to be reliable is blend trees. I use them a lot now.
The editor must change the order or updates slightly or the animator window might be triggering additional updates that hides hide issues in the editor.
