If I wanted to put some canyons in my terrain, I figure there are two options. I could raise the main elevation of the entire terrain up, then lower it where I want canyons, or I could leave my terrain in its “natural” state, and use some of the options I’ve seen mention of where I can “cut out” segments of the terrain so that there would be no collision or rendering, and then sink a model into the area. Actually, maybe the “cut out” idea is something I remember from TGEA. At any rate, does anyone have any pros and cons of either method (is the second possible in Unity, or was that really something I carried over from TGEA?).
Ok. Nevermind. I found Yoggi’s post on the subject. After a few glances a some Arizona topo maps, however, I won’t need to dig into the terrain anyway, since it looks like canyons generally cut through already elevated terrain.
