[solved for now] il2cpp stopped working help

Recently upgraded my Unity from 2017.1 to 2019.1.9f because Google tells me the app needs to support 64 bit. When I try to build with x64 I can only use il2cpp and this error occured. any help?

This is odd, so many posts regarding il2cpp errors. Seems like nobody has this solved and Unity put it as a bug.
Meanwhile Google is telling devs if they don’t update their app to support 64bit within August 1st, can’t post updates anymore. I’m assuming this matter is urgent is it not?

For those kind enough to help me, I’ve searched through my error messages comparing with other errors, I think I narrowed it down to this

It looks like you might not have the Android NDK installed, or Unity cannot locate it. Go to Edit > Preferences in the Unity editor, and check the location and version of the Android NDK that your version of Unity uses.

Nope, this isn’t the case as well.
I tried manually downloading NDK version because it requests version 16b rather than version 20 which is the newest one, I tried both automatically assign with Unity Hub and manual directory locating and both still crashes the il2cpp…

is there an NDK version that other people use? I use the recommended 16b from the older releases tab… this is correct is it not?

The version of the NDK which Edit > Preferences in the Unity editor recommends is the one you should use for the specific version of Unity you have installed.

I actually have another problem now.

Because apparently I was using 32bit NDK while I needed the 64bit.

Anyhow, now the APK exported resulted in immediate crash when launching it on my device, and just a simple white screen if I tried it on bluestacks. I don’t know how to find what’s wrong with it since Unity succeeded building the apk without errors.

You can mark this matter solved by the way. just if you have any final advice on how to narrow down my new problem, I’d appreciate it.

Great! For this new issue, I’d recommend either debugging the code in Visual Studio (build with scripting debugging enabled in Unity), or use some Debug.Log statements throughout your script code to better understand what is happening.

Debug.Log only shows in unity. in this case the app crashes immediately.
Visual studio debugs fine as well. So I tried using the recommended Unity SDK and JDK, this time it brought me back to il2cpp error with a different stdout. So I guess its the same problem but different probable cause now.

was wondering if you have any idea this time because it didn’t say missing file.

It looks like the Android NDK installed by the Unity hub might be wrong. I’m not sure about the details yet though.

TL : DR - use unity2019.1.0f2, manual ndk, use scripting runtime net3.5 (NOT4), reimport iAP if upgrading from old unity2017.

urgh… ok… so…
after I dibble dabbled with the il2cpp error and app crashes for 2 straight days I finally managed to figure out the problem. I’m posting what I did here in case someone else find this helpful.

I had to test what went wrong from my app one by one because when I opened a new project it works. (well kinda, let me get to it). Basically I upgraded my project from Unity 2017 to 2019

  1. Exporting 64 bit (or with il2cpp) crashes the build process with Unity 2019.1.9f, even with recommended setting for JDK, SDK, and NDK. I realize I’m not the only one with a problem in this forum so I don’t blame Josh in waiting for a response as to what happen in that version. anyhow 2019.1.9 is no good.

  2. Following another thread’s solution, I downgraded to 2019.1.0f2, thankfully the project downgraded well because the version gap isn’t that big.

3 Exporting in mono (32 bit) works alright here (builds successfully) for an empty project but the app crashes instantly on my device, and a blank white screen on bluestacks. After a test here and there FINALLY I figured out two things. One, dont use scripting backend 4. revert back to net3.5 if you’re used to it from older Unity. Two, that is the purchasing module. I had to delete and reimport the new module (yeah, it didn’t mention that it was old and was causing a crash). I had to delete my plugins folder then reimport from the services window and unzip each of the three iAP packages. Then it exported and ran fine in both bluestacks and my device.

alright, 32 bit out of the way… now 64 bit no can do because again… il2cpp has stopped working. so turns out…

4 You couldn’t use recommended setting because Unity Hub won’t allow you to install this version. Thus I had to manually install JDK (means signing up for Oracle account installing jdk 8), SDK (means having Android Studio, and from the tools add the latest one), and NDK (ver 16b, not ver 20 which is the newest one, so download from the archive -mind you… 64bit version).

  1. Once you attach all three, it exported 64bit version fine for me which is what I will be uploading to the developer console.

There is lots of bug in il2cpp.and i am also facing this issue.I am also not able to update my game.

i had also struggled for week to get rid out of this il2cpp err. For me what was worked is initially i tried with empty project whether build succeeds or not …its worked well.but after completing project android il2cipp build failed …
i tried lot so many version…but still failed.
try deleting your unity ads sdk and build…if you not supporting ios delete ios plugin.lso delete gamecenter script in ads plugin folder.This might cause ndk err…#if unity_android i tryed with platform compliances but its not worked…hope it might be helpful.i tried lost so many steps… check this link for trouble shooting il2cpp build erros…i am using unity 2017.4.36f lts support…
