I want to install the unpaid version on 3 machines. Possible?

I guess so. At least I did it on two machines and I did not get any complain from Unity.

Well, I think 2 machines is the general limit for all licenses, so I can't really use your answer as 'good' I'm afraid.

When you activate your copy of Unity using the “free” option, you get provided a serial number. This serial number is good for just a single machine. To have Unity Free run on three machines you simply perform activation on each machine. You’ll end up with a unique serial number on each machine.

If you have purchased add-ons for your free license, then the serial number you will receive is good for use on two machines. Note that only you as the owner of this free plus add-on serial number can use it.

The license says that only one per machine, actually: > Free, Trial and Educational Product Restrictions. If you are using a free, trial or educational version of the Software, you may install the Software on a single computer only. But it depends on what you want to do, i.e. you can register one license per physical user. Also, is a bit weird to me that they state that Unity Free is a fully featured version of the engine (isn't the pro version the fully featured one, indeed?): > “Unity Free” means the full featured version of the Unity software.

Interesting. I emailed them directly recently to ask about having IOS pro + Unity Free on 2 machines and they said it was A-OK. This has now confused the issue somewhat.

I'd say that it's only 1. It seems pretty clear under the "Free, Trial or Educational" section.
