[SOLVED] Why is Water4 so bright/emissive without any light source?

Hello,
I’m trying to use the Water4 prefab in a dark scene. There are no lights in the scene whatsoever, but the water appears very emissive, or like it is picking up some light source. I cannot get the brightness down.

No specular lighting, no reflections, no scene lights, no foam. The reflection and specular colors are set to black.

I looked at the FX/Water4 shader it suspect it might have something to do with the shader using fog. I don’t know. This is not very suitable for a night-time setting.
Does anyone know of a solution to this?

Thanks.

I guess you have paid attention to it already… you don’t have a SkyBox activated, have you?

The water color looks a lot like your base color.

No skybox nor ambient lighting. It is an underground setting. I got it a little better by removing the base color and adding reflection color,

Maybe this is just how it supposed to be. But it seems like everything is inverted. The blues should be black, and the black should be blue.

If there is no light source, shouldn’t it all be showing up as black? I mean, isn’t that what you should be expecting / looking for?

Try moving the base and reflection colors to a very dark spot within the aqua, see if it looks good at night, and then see how it looks in a day scene.

If you alternate between night and day lighting, you should be able to figure out a good setting.

LOL. I figured out the problem. What is seen in Scene view is NOT the same as what is seen in the game window.

What is shown is the game window when running the game is what I want, and makes sense. When viewing in scene view, it is not the same. The scene view was misleading me.

Ah, yes, you have that little “Sunshine” button activated, right? This automatically lights your scene (in the scene view, but not in the game). It confused me as well for several hours.

What do you mean by “Sunshine” button? I don’t know what you’re referring to.

Ok, yep, that must be the reason. I did not even know about that button until now. I must have clicked it by accident.
