Hi.
There is a new version of unity 5.5.4 (7 Jun, 2017):
And there is also Unity 5.6.1 (11 May, 2017).
Which should I download now?
5.5.4 should be 5.6.4?
Hi.

Latest, duh.
But, why is the version 5.5.4 lower than 5.6.1?
The questions you ask aren’t silly ones.
Unity has major and minor versions. Major versions are 5.5.x or 2017.x and minor versions are x.x.1 etc. When you are close to releasing your game you should update to fix unity-side bugs using minor versions not major versions, as major versions can often have code changes or changes in how Unity works. Usually these aren’t showstoppers but some developers like to play it super safe.
So when reading version numbers, it’s easy to look at the last one and be confused. But the last one is often the most important if you want to stay with a major version number for reasons of stability. Unity attaches specific meanings to them. If you’re just tinkering or getting started, you can safely update to the latest major+minor version (ie 5.6.3 etc)…
So if you are looking for a new version of Unity and don’t really care about the small print you want to read the entire thing as one number and get the latest
Best of luck!
