No comments? Come on, good, bad, anything? =)
It looks nice I think people just got burnt out trolling the other MMO and RPG posts. Is there any gameplay or anything scripted yet? The question is, does it play well
On the blog I have videos - sorry if this seems like I am trying to get traffic (I am not I am a hobbiest and don’t really care about that) - but there are some game play videos of me killing rats in a cave with some spells (I was showcasing the spell effects I think).
Most systems are in place (combat, AI, pathfinding, spell system, weather system (Unisky + hand made weather manager), saving/loading game state, journal, complete inventory system using runes, traps, secret doors, levelling system…it all works (might not be bug free though hehe).
Just working on building the scenes now (thus the screenshots).
OK here is one, it’s short and sorry for the rat squeeking!
this is using the old GUI so apologize for the terrible look.
The environment has no lighting at all. Without light it looks a very dead wood.
The menus looks like mmo ones, I dont like that. But some icons are cool.
Yeah sorry the vid is a bit dark - but it is a cave and supposed to be pretty dark (you do have a torch). I don’t want to make it too light because stealth can be used and is based on ambient light sources…
As for the menues - as a hobbiest (and developer) I have no skill in art, so this will always be an area where my game lacks.
I was talking about the first images, the woods, landscapes. The caves looks good.
Fixed, thanks for the feedback.
looks cool keep it up
Can only see the pictures in the first post but the enviroment looks very “explorerable”.
This monitor is kind of dark (at work) even with the brightness all the way up (likely onboard video support)
so can’t see everything that well, but for the most part pretty nice.
Now that I have my weather manager created (I created it to handle and manage UniSky which I highly recommend) I will re-do some screenshots - if it’s sunny out the ambient light will be higher and everything will be brighter.
I am also just adding in falling leaves and bugs.
Oh and I will add a video of me tackling some undead in a ruined abbey - it’s not very polished yet though.
The new environmental stuff sounds great!
Yeah, some higher ambient light would really help on the out door scenes.
Couple more videos - starting to work on my first tomb:
And a trap and some lighting (and slowing lighting torch):
Awesome, maybe slow down the run speed just a tiny bit, give it some weight.
hi,
just a few words about your outdoor scene:
1200 – 4900 draw calls is pretty heavy stuff. just for the environment i would not spend more than may be 700 draw calls (deferred rendering + real time shadows). as occlusion culling does not speed up the rendering of the terrain at all right now (unity 3.4) you will have to rework your terrain to lower the number of draw calls.
lars
Nice work, you should take larsbertram’s advice
4000 draw calls ? Wow what machine are you using to get decent frame rate from it?
looks awesome but fix the draw calls.
