Some Unity games refuse to boot up

Hey all. I apologize in advance if this is not the right place to post this but after many google searches i’m at a loss and don’t know how to fix this issue.

I have bought a few games made with the unity engine on itch.io and tried to play them but they simply won’t boot up; i don’t even get an error message, i double click their exe and nothing happens, an hourglass pops up next to my mouse cursor but almost instantly disappears.

I tried messing with the compatibility settings and running these games on administrator mode to no avail, and when i tried looking at the task manager while booting one of the games up, something very briefly popped up before immediatly disappearing. I tried doing this multiple times in a row and after the first try it doesn’t even appear on the task manager anymore, it’s as if i’m clicking on nothing.

This only happens with some games however, some other unity games i can run just fine, which makes me wonder what the problem originates from. I looked around and the unity games i can’t run don’t seem to be inherently broken as they have been recommended by numerous reviews on the itch.io store as well as dedicated websites like Rock Paper Shotgun.

Sorry if some of this information is a bit vague, i’m not at all familiar with Unity or how it works and this is the first time it’s given me trouble.

Thank you for reading and thanks in advance for any advice you might have !

This isn’t the place to get support for games. You’d have to contact the authors.

Some general advice: You can hold down alt while starting a Unity game to hopefully get the resolution/input options. Maybe selecting a screen and resolution explicitly there helps. The games might also produce a log file, but the developers would ask you for that. It’s possible some games are old, abandoned games, but they could also die instantly if you don’t have DX11 support and they’re built with a recent version of Unity which excludes DX9 devices.

Basically hunt down every log and Event Log entry which might look relevant, and send them to the creators of the problematic games

Thanks a lot for the reply ! A friend helped me figure out the problem, and it’s spectacularly dumb, so i’ll post it here and delete this thread in a day or two seeing as the issue had nothing to do with unity.

In short, the folder where i stored all of my Unity games had a name with some punctuation in it and that’s what was stopping any unity game within it to launch.
