just though it could be some interest for some folks here
I am playing around the psm sdk already since quite a bit , just wonder what that may end up for that side of indy dev on current psm mobile device and psvita…
I would be more than happy to drop the psm sdk for unity by the way ^^
its prob the same as the Nintendo deal. When you get a ps3/4/vita dev kit, it will prob have a version of unity pre-installed. It doesnt nesc mean that now indies can self publish on the sony systems.
Pretty much what I think.
If you read the interview of that Sony representative on Gamesutra after their PS4 event, it did not sound like they plan to make the PS4 indie friendly.
But PSM supports publishers only from countries where they have a open store running local currency.
MANY Unity developers will be unable to test their builds or sell on the stores for a long time until Sony expand this thing.
Also I’m quite sure this will be another $1500 addon…
PS Mobile is much like iOS/Android – no devkit needed, small fee. Though one thing I didn’t get a straight answer on is whether we’ll be able to build to vita from a mac. Currently the PS Mobile SDK is Windows-only – one Sony rep seemed to think it was definitely possible (and also up to Unity to support it on Mac), but that sounds off – I assume Unity will build a PS Mobile project and we’ll use the PS Mobile SDK to build/send to device (like we do on iOS/Android), so it’s their PSMobile SDK that needs to work on Mac.
Regular PS Vita development is a little different, but it’s still quite friendly to indies. I’m tiny but I qualify. All you need is a business entity (LLC, inc, etc) and a static IP. They said they usually loan out devkits for free, but that’s obviously dependent on how confident they are in you and your game.
My main question is whether I can build to vita on a Mac or not. If so, I really think I’d support Vita. Otherwise I’d have to lug my dirty PC into the office
