Sony looks like its almost gone

Makes the Oyua look good…( i wont blow 300$ on a system by a dieing company !)

Well Sony wont die itself, it’s to big for that. Maybe the game related part though.

IMO the PS4 will boost shares.

The mobile market is something they keep futility trying to enter with no one interested in a hardcore portable console. the only mobile gaming system of there’s that even slightly interested me was the Xperia play(though I do own a PSP)

Wow can you imagine that would leave just xbox for core games and nintendo for casual. I just wish the ouya has abit more power to it .

Why would you think that?

Hmm, I never knew Nintendo was strictly Casual…people don’t understand what the Wii-U is. >.>

Nintendo always seemed… casual. I don’t think Sony will be gone, maybe just the gaming part. Microsoft could then boost their prices -_-.

The Fire Emblem Wii-U game is enough to get me to uy one !

The only problem is I have big hands and nintendo has decided that all the buttons on the 3D and Wii-U need to be as small as possible .

I might get a 3DS if the price dropped to 99$( Fire Emblem is that good) .

I see the PS gaming drop, and Microsoft raising their already ridiculous prices, because there will be more of a need. Someone will have to step up. Don’t see Nintendo doing it…

What did I tell you guys? CONSOLES ARE DEAD! DEAD!@@!!!

I’m the first one to predict it… remember me when it comes true. MICROSOFT WILL TAKE OVER!

That awkward moment when you realize all the posts he linked are from him…

Even Microsoft is in trouble. They just killed XNA didn’t they…?
Sure, you will say XNA is nothing! It won’t affect the overall health of XBOX. You just wait. People only wants to play Angry Birds these days. Microsoft just killed off its last golden egg…

My prediction, even Microsoft will leave the console business. They will either spin off XBox division or sell it off. Nintendo will soon be on its last leg that goes without saying. That will leave the console market all to Android micro-consoles.

Unlikely.

I see what you mean… forgot about that. I think it will affect Xbox, but people still pay for the same ole’ s***t. I doubt that they’re going anywhere. Greedy bastards.

Consoles are not dead. The next gen consoles will all be out soon, and those will carry on for another 5 to 10 years. Who knows what will happen in that time. I suspect they will start following a more open business model, like the Ouya (and maybe the Steambox?)

I agree, Nintendo is certainly the casual gamer’s console. Nintendo is and always has been a toy. I doubt you will ever find a “hardcore gamer” with a Wii/Wii-U and NOT with another console.

Also, the argument that “people just don’t get it” is getting really old for Nintendo. They crank out gimmick after gimmick, then proclaim “you just don’t understand!” Kinda cliche.

The big 3 just don’t seem to know how to adapt. The future may or may not be Android console either. There is also possibility of new players in town like Valve’s own console, or even Samsung! Samsung recently announced “100% Indie Initiative” where indie developers get 100% of the profit (for the first 6 months, and then 10% after 6 months, and 30% after 2 years later). With things like that to entice the indie developers and the likes - there is a lot of possiblity Samsung may even become a console maker if they are successful. We are already at a new age where the architecture differs dramatically to the traditional console model. Whoever adapts this new model will win the market.

I just don’t see Sony being able to finance itself to keep the PS3 going . This is what happens when you refuse to adapt and you spend half the console cycle making crap too expensive for normal people .

Nintendo tends to make one or 2 games that make it worth while to buy the entire system . For me it would be a fire emblem wii-u game . Waiting on it to actually ship first( a no gameplay tease isn’t enough , and its mixed with Devil Survivor

I agree, people will start coming out with boxes that you can download games onto (OUYA) and the WII thing, totally agree. I laugh at people that think the WWii is the best console on the market .

Samsung should be interesting

Sony has been in financial trouble for a while. It has nothing to do with “consoles dying” as I am da bawss keeps harping on about every single time something tangentially related to consoles is announced, but the brand identity that Sony has tried to (and ultimately failed) to cultivate. Sony has been trying to brand itself as a purveyor of luxury electronic goods for some time. It’s the case with pretty much every electronic device they sell. For all intents and purposes, they wanted to be seen as the Apple of general consumer electronics.

However, this backfired horribly on them, partly because Sony wanted to have it all. They sold high-priced electronic goods and a bunch of cheap alternatives that are super terrible wastes of money. This dichotomy made them look like purveyors of dramatically overpriced crap. This was especially apparent with their monitors and televisions. Like, I don’t think a lot of people here realise, but Sony isn’t just Playstation. If you go into a consumer electronics store, you’ll find that they make just about goddamn near everything and that stuff isn’t selling thanks to the failed attempt at a brand identity Sony has created.

No, consoles aren’t dead or dying. Console sales have dropped sharply over the past year because they’re reaching market saturation and software sales/production have slowed due to the intercycle lull that happens every console generation. The Wii U came out and, over the same span of time as the original Wii (which sold like hotcakes) it has managed to sell just 160,000 unites fewer despite having a $50 higher price tag. However a lot of people are shouting DOOM AND GLOOM because there’s actually Wii U stock available. This is because Nintendo was smart and bothered to make sure that they had ample stock.

Sony is losing steam because they completely messed up cultivating a brand identity, not because consoles are dying.
