Source for Visually Stunning VR Scenes

Just getting started with Unity. We are trying to use it to demo a new HMD we are developing with our high performance displays. We want to use Unity in tandem with OpenVR to show content and we are looking for some sample scenes that we can play through Unity on our device. Can anyone point me to a location where I can get such scenes. These don’t have to be open source as we would be willing to pay for content, if necessary. However, we are looking for visually compelling examples. Any guidance is appreciated.

Try SteamVR Destinations app or in Steam’s The Lab there are photogrammetry captured environments as well. You can check out Realities.io on Steam as well. Batman Arkham VR has some beautiful environments too.

If your HMD is high performance and resource intensive you should explore getting 2x SLI Titan Xp and utilizing Unity 2017.2 beta with nVidia VRWorks plugin to enable SLI. My studio creates high end visualizations in Unity utilizing similar configurations and I’m in the process of updating our projects to support SLI.

Edit:
Oops I see you’re looking to “playback scenes in Unity” and I suggested scenes you can view in Steam my apologies. Unfortunately I don’t know anywhere you can get scenes in Unity that will automatically work well in VR but you can explore the asset store and search for ArchViz. There are some great scenes that are mostly VR ready for you to play with in Unity.

Did not notice that NVIDIA added an early VRWorks asset to the store, thanks for the tip.

Thanks! - I’ll try those out. Actually I was just exploring VRWorks integration with Unity and was getting pointed to the 2017.1 Beta version of Unity. I notice that 2017.2 is not yet listed on their ‘Roadmap’ … so how do we feel about the stability of 2017.2? Trying to decide which version to install (+ can I install 2017.x next to v5.6 on the same computer?)

According to VRWorks Asset Store page I believe you need Unity 2017.1b2 I keep typing 2017.2 but I meant 2017.1b2. If it wasn’t for SLI support I’d still be on 5.5.

Edit:
You can definitely have many versions of Unity installed just rename directory for installations or set their install locations to version named directories.

Polybox makes AAA quality scenes that are optimized very well for cases like mobile VR. The Polybox scenes from modern loft make good study cases for how to make stunning graphics that are efficiently optimized:

@contempt , First of all, thanks for the tips. Second of all, I’m curious about the content your studio is creating. We have 2048 x 2048 OLED displays and we are trying to find content that can highlight the performance they offer. A lot of the content I’ve taken a look at is of a lower resolution and not necessarily ‘visually stunning’. Do you have any samples that you could share for our demonstration? I’d be happy to discuss directly, if that makes sense…

Contact me via PM. We do volumetric environment capture and have a pre-alpha markerless mocap and 4D capture system made by now defunct Organic Motion. Using our Faro Focus LiDAR paired with a Gigapan robotic pano head and Canon 5DSR we capture 32k HDR spherical panos that is then painted over mesh data derived from laser point cloud data and deliver multi UV tiled 4K texture maps via Amplify Texture 2. Unfortunately we don’t have anything I can publically provide yet but we’d be interested in working with you to generate suitable benchmark content.
